Venables is a challenging and entertaining game for all ages that can keep you playing for hours nonstop. You can play against a friend or the computer or watch the computer play against itself to learn some moves. You can even assign names to the players, and if you play against the computer, you can select the difficulty level, which ranges from 1 to 6. You can also customize the time per turn in seconds or play with no time limits, and also select shields patterns to play with. The game is not so easy to play and has a number of rules, which need to be studied before starting to play. However, it includes a comprehensive help file that interprets these rules in a detailed way with clear explanations and a few illustrations. The most difficult part for me resides in the fact that the pieces are controlled indirectly by means of a cursor on an auxiliary board, which can be confusing sometimes. This is clearly a strategic game, and as such, requires the elaboration of tactics and pre-thinking of the opponent moves. If you like strategic games, I'm sure you will enjoy Venables a lot, and besides it is completely free.
